Historical notes

History of Libre Knowledge Communities Here we outline some of the activities leading to the establishment of the Free Knowledge Foundation and this Libre Communities site.

  • 2007 LibreMeeting2007 (Spanish) - philosophical discussions and establishing stronger links to the Free Software Foundation.
  • 2005 Workshops on FLOSS and Free Knowledge convened by the Meraka Institute in South Africa resulting in first drafts of the definition and manifesto.
  • Previously, libre.org was active in developing the concept along similar lines.
