Libre.org 2007 Prizes Awarded

The Free Knowledge Foundation (FKF) awards the «libre.org» prizes to the institutions and people that stand out in the defense and promotion of Free Knowledge and Free Software.

This year 2007 the prizes have been awarded to the following people and institutions:

Junta de Andalucía: for developing the «Guadalinex» distribution and certain policy in favour of Free Software, for their decision of making free all software within the Junta of Andalucía, and for incorporating Free Software promotion as a mean of motivating the Society of Information in Andalucia.

Generalitat Valenciana, for developing the «Lliurex» Free Software distribution.

Excmo. Sr. D. Juan Alberto Belloch, for the progressive incorporation of Free Software in the local administration of the city of Zaragoza, for adopting free software technology in the development of the city council applications, and for promoting free software from a firm position in the local administration.

Ministerio de Industria, Turismo y Comercio, for creating a specific line of help for R & D of Free Software.


Dr. Richard Stallman, «father» of Free Software and honour patron of the Free Knowledge Foundation, and D. Pablo Machón, president of the FKF, will be in charge of giving these prizes in the university residence «La Cristalera», located in Miraflores de la Sierra, Madrid, on the 11th may at 10.00 am, as part of the schedule of the Ist International Free Software and Free Knowledge Meeting, "LibreMeeting 2007" (10 & 11 may). Important figures of the spanish politic world will be present at this event, as well as people from the university, the media and free software.


In the previous edition of these awards (2005) the  prizes were given to the president of the Junta de Extremadura, D. Juan Carlos Rodríguez Ibarra, the Conseller of the Generalitat Valenciana, D. Esteban González Pons and to the spanish senate (senator D. Carles Bonet received the prize in its name).
